Project Overview

I re-designed a website of an NGO called SIMI Foundation using the 10 principles of heuristics as my guidelines.

Heuristic Evaluation

Project Summary

I performed a heuristic evaluation using Neilson’s 10 principles on a Non-governmental organization website called SIMI Foundation. This was a project posted by the organization to redesign their website without removing any feature.

Competitive analysis

After taking inspiration from other good NGO websites I figured out what makes their UX better:

1. Great web accessibility due to a good navigation bar.
2. Good use of brand color and a clear “Make donation“ button.
3. A moving carousel with images to engage the audience and better reach for social media handle.

Heuristics Principles

Heuristics refer to principles that are commonly used by designers to guide their work and help them make decisions to evaluate the quality of a user's experience with a product or service.

  1. Visibility of system status.
  2. Match between system and the real world.
  3. User control and freedom.
  4. Consistency and standards.
  5. Error prevention.
  6. Recognition rather than recall.
  7. Flexibility and efficiency of use.
  8. Aesthetic and minimalist design.
  9. Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors.
  10. Help and documentation.
